39 Canadian Brigade Group Information

The 39 Canadian Brigade Group (39 CBG) is part of Land Force Western Area (LFWA) of the Canadian army. It is composed of Canadian Forces (CF) Primary Reserve units which are based in British Columbia. No. 39 CBG is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the Jericho Garrison on West 4th Avenue.

The Governor General, Roméo LeBlanc, authorized the 39 CBG badge on 1 May 1998.

In total, 39 CBG is headquarters for 10 Primary Reserve units of which: two are armoured units, four are infantry units, one is a combat engineering unit, two are field artillery units and one is a combat service support unit.

Canadian Forces Medical Service

The medical needs of 39 CBG, such as tending to wounded troops in the field, are provided by two field ambulance units, which are not part of the brigade group but are part of the Canadian Forces Medical Service.

No. 11 (Victoria) Field Ambulance is garrisoned at the Lieutenant General EC Ashton Armoury in Victoria, British Columbia, while 12 (Vancouver) Field Ambulance is garrisoned at the Jericho Garrison in Vancouver, British Columbia

Canadian Forces military police

Although 39 Canadian Brigade Group has no integral military police unit, army military police support in British Coluimbia is provided by 12 Platoon of 15 Military Police Company of 1 Military Police Unit, headquartered in CFB Edmonton.

12 Platoon has its platoon headquarters at the Colonel Sherman Armoury in Richmond and also an element stationed at the Lieutenant General EC Ashton Armoury in Victoria. 12 Platoon is a Primary Reserve military police platoon, part of the Primary Reserve 15 Military Police Company within 1 Military Police Unit, which is a composite Regular and Reserve unit. Other Reserve platoons in 15 Military Police Company are: 13 Platoon in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and CFB Shilo and 14 Platoon in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.

Intelligence

Intelligence services for 39 CBG are provided by the Vancouver detachment of 6 Intelligence Company. The unit headquarters is at CFB Edmonton and operates several detachments in several brigade groups. 6 Int Coy operated detachments in:

Exercise Cougar Salvo

Exercise Cougar Salvo is 39 Canadian Brigade Group's annual exercise which combines the brigade as a whole. Every year, the exercise is held in a different location, usually in British Columbia, in 2006, it was held in the streets of Kamloops, in 2007, at HMCS Quadra Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre near Comox.
