How to get mucus out of cats eyes?
Q. I just got a himalayan kitten and he has gotten some mucus stuck around his eyes. I know this is very common to the breed. I've been wiping them but some is crusty and hard to get off. Is there a product at petstores to help get it off? Any tips?

A. I use a great product called Eye Envy for my Persian and Exotic Shorthair. It cleans the eye area and keeps them from getting goopy. It also is great at removing an tear staining that is already there. It's a bit pricey but a bottle of it will last quite awhile. This is how bright white Percy's eye area looks now - You can find it at some groomer or order it online - link below. If I run out of it I use a little bit of my saline solution for my contact lenses to clean the eye area. That works pretty well but won't keep the eyes from getting goopy like Eye Envy does. I sound like a commercial lol I really should ask for commission from them as often as I recommend it - just really like the stuff!

What is cervical mucus in early pregnancy supposed to look like?
Q. It is 11 days past the day i think i ovulated, and for the past 4-5 days my cervical mucus has been thicker, white and snot-like (sorry if tmi). It has also been just slightly stretchy, but not much. My hubby and I had unprotected sex on several days around ovulation time. Is this type of cm the type I might get if i am indeed pregnant?

How long after you lost your mucus plug did you go into labor?
Q. My friend is 37 weeks pregnant and she lost her mucus plug 2 days ago. She is having a lot of pressure today but no contractions. She is scheduled to have a c-section on the 13th but is hoping for a vbac if she goes into labor on her own before then. How long after you lost your mucus plug did you go into labor and deliver your baby. Thanks! The baby is already head down but maybe it's engaging into the pelvis? I guess they are all good signs either way.

A. my sisters friend lost hers and went into labor less than 48 hours later, but for some it can take weeks...it all depends. she may be starting labor soon, but that pressure also could be the baby turning into the birthing position, that sometimes can cause a lot of pressure!

How do you tell the difference between mucus and pus in your stool?
Q. I was just wondering because when I read up on bowel movements they said mucus can sometimes be clear or a yellowish color. While pus is yellow also. So how do you tell the difference? Btw don't tell me to go to the doctor cause I already did and its just I had a mild case of ibs. But I just wanted to know how you tell the difference between mucus and pus. Thanks for all who answers.

A. Pus is whitish and maybe in a form of foamy clumps, where as mucus is more stringy and drawn out, but maybe the same color. Musus is also yellow to tan color, where pus is usually white to yellow. Good Luck! JM-RN

What is the best way to reduce eye mucus due to allergies to clear vision?
Q. I am currently on a medication study that does not allow me to take any additional allergy medication. I wear glasses and sometimes contacts and have always had a lot of eye mucus. My allergist has not been able to find a way to reduce it. My eyes are dry; but, I use rewetting drops quite often. Does anybody have any pointers for non-medical ways to improve this situation by reducing eye mucus levels?
Asked by kelarium - Mon Jun 4 14:33:06 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Believe it of not the mucus is a good thing it traps the allergen and it reduces the irritation. Is your body's defense. I can understand that is annoying but, since your in that study your options are limited. Just keep your eyes clean and makes sure the tissue you use is clean every time. Good hand washing before and after will help reduce the amount of bacteria you introduce to your eyes every time you clean them. Hope that helps

How long should you have eggwhite cervical mucus?
Q. I am beginning to think I have a very short window for ovulation. I have it for part of a day and then not again. Can you have eggwhite cervical mucus for longer than a day?
Asked by Nicole C - Thu May 10 20:14:20 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. By observing your vaginal secretions, you'll know if you are ovulating. You should notice that there's a changing pattern from vaginal dryness to sticky discharge to slippery discharge. The slippery discharge may last 1-2 days. The accompaniment of swollen vulva will indicate that you are in the peak of your ovulation (i.e., an egg has been realease from one of your ovaries and is ready for fertilization). After the peak day, your vaginal discharge will become sticky or dry.

What are the possible reasons for finding mucus in your vagina after urination?
Q. I recently went to the bathroom, after I urinated, I wiped and found a small clump of clearish-whiteish mucus on the toilet paper. I'm not sure what would cause this and I have checked wedmd and yahoo health and found no answers. I know that I am not pregnant. HELP! Thanks... I just found it odd because I've had periods for 12 years now and I don't remember that happening once. Good to know it's "normal"!!! Also good to know that I can have kids in the future! Thanks again
Asked by Kristin M - Sun Jun 17 21:10:13 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is totally normal to have what is called Cervical Mucous throughout your cycle. You may be ovulating, at which time your body produces a large amount of cervical mucous that is stretchy. That CM is produced in order to facilitate getting pregnant. It provides nutients for the sperm, along with a hospitable environment for the sperm. If the CM has an odor, and has a cottage-cheese texture it could be an infection such as bacterial vaginosis or yeast infection. If it is odorless and stretchy, it is likely what is called egg-white (fertile) CM. It's completely harmless, and totally natural. And it's a good sign if you intend to get pregnant in the future, as it is very helpful in getting pregnant. Hope that helps.

A. Kathy A got it. you "snort" warm salt water up each nostril, as it comes down the back of your throat, spit it out. the best benefit of this is the same as gargling with salt water, you wash all those germs out of your sinuses and get well faster. mix your salt water in a cup and put some in a spoon and then pt it up to one nostril while you hold the other nostril closed. also, if you drink lots of liquids you will thin out the mucus.

A. Not a comfortable feeling at all! Sorry that you have to deal with this. I don't know if this will work for you or not. All I know is that it helped a friend of mine, a full time bag pipe musician, keep his throat clear when he has challenges with mucus build up. He uses Young Living Essential Oils Breath Again essential oil formula and the Stanly Burks Master Cleanse recipe: one juiced lemon, water, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper.

A. My contractions started less than 24 hours after i started to lose my mucus plug, although i lost alot more when i was in full on labour in hospital. My show happened after a sweep though and i was 11 days over due. Although it doesn't mean your labour will start today or even tomorrow, it is a definite sign that things are happening, it won't be long for you at all. Wow i just realised you are only 36 weeks, have you contacted your midwife? i would let her know just to be on the safe side, although you aren't far from 37 weeks, a baby isn't considerd full term until 37 weeks (in the UK anyway). Good Luck with everything! x

What can cause coughing up white mucus for more than 6 months?
Q. I have been coughing up white mucus for more than 6 months. I quit smoking 8 years ago and havent been sick for about 6 months. What can cause this. Sometimes i will cough and cough and nothing comes up and then out of the blue I cough up white mucus.
Asked by pistolpete_63 - Tue May 26 11:41:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It could be just sinus drainage. Clear or white mucus is normal...so you are ok. When the mucus is yellow, that is a sign of infection and green mucus means old infection. When your sinuses drain, they drip down your throat causing you to cough. Sometimes the cough will produce mucus and sometimes it will not. You are ok...probably just have a lot of sinus drainage.

What are the signs and symptoms of losing yout mucus plug ?
Q. Im almost 36weeks pregnant . And i think im losing my mucus plug , cuz there is this neon green liquid always showing up on toilet paper. Its not super thick mostly thin and i have been having alot more secretion . Sometime it could be really neon green and at times it can be lightly neon green . Can it be my mucos plug?
Asked by diamondgirl21 - Wed Dec 23 02:41:32 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Doesn't sound like it, but it could mean it's coming. Usually any type of green discharge means you need to see your doctor to be checked for infection, because it is not normal. It's not common for women to have any green show before losing the mucous plug.
