How long should you have eggwhite cervical mucus?
Q. I am beginning to think I have a very short window for ovulation. I have it for part of a day and then not again. Can you have eggwhite cervical mucus for longer than a day?
Asked by Nicole C - Thu May 10 20:14:20 2007 - Women's Health - 2 Answers - Comments

A. By observing your vaginal secretions, you'll know if you are ovulating. You should notice that there's a changing pattern from vaginal dryness to sticky discharge to slippery discharge. The slippery discharge may last 1-2 days. The accompaniment of swollen vulva will indicate that you are in the peak of your ovulation (i.e., an egg has been realease from one of your ovaries and is ready for fertilization). After the peak day, your vaginal discharge will become sticky or dry.

What can get rid of the excess mucus in my throat?
Q. For the past couple of months I've had a really annoying build-up of excess mucus in my throat. It's worse during certain times of the day, I feel like I'm hawking up a loogie (sp) every 1-2 minutes. I bought some Mucinex, but I don't know if that really helps at all. Is there anything else I can try to get rid of this? What could it be from?

How to tell the difference between cervical mucus and semen?
Q. I had a positive opk test on Wednesday night, however, I have been very stressed and sleep deprived till last night. We had sex last night and this morning and after going for a bowel movement (sorry tmi) there was literally a string of yellowish white stuff hanging out of me. Was this leftover semen from last night or cervical mucus from delayed ovulation? Thanks

A. Semen will dilute in water, EWCM will not.

What is cervical mucus in early pregnancy supposed to look like?
Q. It is 11 days past the day i think i ovulated, and for the past 4-5 days my cervical mucus has been thicker, white and snot-like (sorry if tmi). It has also been just slightly stretchy, but not much. My hubby and I had unprotected sex on several days around ovulation time. Is this type of cm the type I might get if i am indeed pregnant?

How long does it take for your mucus plug to pass?
Q. I am 8 months pregnant and on Thursday I went to the doctor and he told me I had passed my mucus plug and I am 2 cm dilated. About 10 minutes ago I went to the bathroom, and I peed. When I wiped myself there was a little spot of what looked like mucus. Is my mucus plug still passing? This is my first pregnancy so I'm confused.
Asked by Emily - Sat Jun 20 14:20:50 2009 - Pregnancy - 4 Answers - Comments

A. i was reading on google that sometimes if a woman that is pregnant has alot more discharge than normal she may not notice the mucus plug passing... because it varies in look... mucusy, watery, tinged with blood, brown, pink... its all different. but if the doc said that you "passed" it already then thats that i guess...

A. Not a comfortable feeling at all! Sorry that you have to deal with this. I don't know if this will work for you or not. All I know is that it helped a friend of mine, a full time bag pipe musician, keep his throat clear when he has challenges with mucus build up. He uses Young Living Essential Oils Breath Again essential oil formula and the Stanly Burks Master Cleanse recipe: one juiced lemon, water, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper.

What is the best way to reduce eye mucus due to allergies to clear vision?
Q. I am currently on a medication study that does not allow me to take any additional allergy medication. I wear glasses and sometimes contacts and have always had a lot of eye mucus. My allergist has not been able to find a way to reduce it. My eyes are dry; but, I use rewetting drops quite often. Does anybody have any pointers for non-medical ways to improve this situation by reducing eye mucus levels?
Asked by kelarium - Mon Jun 4 14:33:06 2007 - Allergies - 3 Answers - Comments

A. Believe it of not the mucus is a good thing it traps the allergen and it reduces the irritation. Is your body's defense. I can understand that is annoying but, since your in that study your options are limited. Just keep your eyes clean and makes sure the tissue you use is clean every time. Good hand washing before and after will help reduce the amount of bacteria you introduce to your eyes every time you clean them. Hope that helps

What is that nasty mucus like think on my almost due dogs vulva?
Q. Shes due sometime this week. There is a mucus snot like thing on her vulva. What is that? Also what are the 3 signs that she is going into, or in labor? She has not been nesting yet...
Asked by Diamond Star - Sun Jul 27 19:45:14 2008 - Dogs - 7 Answers - Comments

A. The mucus is normal in pregnant dogs. Some signs they're going in labor is panting, tiredness, etc. try giving her a treat, if she eats it eagerly and wants more, then she's probably not going into labor for atleast a couple more hours. After you get your pups, you should really consider spaying your dog if you're not planning on it already. There are already so many homeless animals. Plus there's so much info to know about breeding. It sounds like you may need more time to learn it. Good luck with your pups!

What are some recommendations to reduce mucus in my throat?
Q. I've been having a lot of mucus lately. Probably because I was sick a few days ago. How do I get rid of it?
Asked by grprettyangel - Fri Oct 29 18:11:42 2010 - Other - Health - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Drinking hot tea with lemon is one of the best astringents for the throat. It sooths and doesn't make more mucus. If you go to a doctor he might prescribe a nasal spray to keep the mucus from running down your throat from allergens. Also antihistamines are useful. Some juices and milk products tend to make mucus production worse in the throat. They sooth, but they actually cause you to make more mucus than you had in the first place.

How to tell the difference between Discharge and Mucus plug?
Q. 34 weeks pregnant and have been having lots of thick discharge, how do I know its not the mucus plug slowly coming away? Whats the difference?
Asked by Robyn's Mommy - Fri Dec 7 05:46:49 2007 - Pregnancy - 5 Answers - Comments

A. the mucus plug is more like one or two big globs of goo that has the consistency of an un-cooked egg white (stringy)or even thicker. It is usually a yellowy-white colour with pink tinges through it (from the blood when it comes away from the cervix) Normal discharge is noticeably different because it doesn't have the stringy-ness or isn't big globs like the mucus plug. It can still be quite thick but is usually easily wiped away. The mucus plug will be stringy and hard to wipe away. I hope that gives you some insight!

How long does mucus stay in your eyes after a really bad cold?
Q. I had a really bad cold starting around Saturday. My body killed and I had a slight fever. I stayed home for a couple days and while I did I noticed this green stuff in my eye. It seems to be mucus from my sinuses were all terrible. My body is healed but I still have a stuffed up nose and even worse the mucus in my eyes still comes back when ever I fall asleep and it's the worse feeling in the world to wake up to. How long will this last?
Asked by Dr Johnny Skinz - Thu May 19 17:02:11 2011 - Optical - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Until your sinuses are not inflamed and producing extra mucus. Honestly unless a doctor says it's gone you may have allowed the respiratory infection to spread upward by being so sleepy.

How long after you lost your mucus plug did you go into labor?
Q. My friend is 37 weeks pregnant and she lost her mucus plug 2 days ago. She is having a lot of pressure today but no contractions. She is scheduled to have a c-section on the 13th but is hoping for a vbac if she goes into labor on her own before then. How long after you lost your mucus plug did you go into labor and deliver your baby. Thanks! The baby is already head down but maybe it's engaging into the pelvis? I guess they are all good signs either way.

A. my sisters friend lost hers and went into labor less than 48 hours later, but for some it can take weeks...it all depends. she may be starting labor soon, but that pressure also could be the baby turning into the birthing position, that sometimes can cause a lot of pressure!
